Summer Night Shadows is a group of six canvases mounted in two columns of three panels each. Depending on one’s interpretation, they carry several meanings. They can be seen as a series of snapshots like on a rotating film strip, revealing a sequence of abstract nightly scenes. They can also be viewed as a bigger scene behind a six-panel window, depicting a dream-like landscape in motion, or perhaps a dramatic summer night sky.

Part of the Scapes series, these works are rich in detail, and dense in terms of their brush strokes. Rather than reflecting light through semi-transparent layers of paint as in the Lights and Shadows series, these paintings absorb it. By the same token, their dark appearance is intentionally misleading on a first glimpse. Upon close inspection, these paintings reveal a serene, dimly lit atmosphere that is vibrant nonetheless.

Summer Night Shadows was exhibited at the Gan Yishu – Enough of Art, F. Art group exhibition at Espace Cinko in Paris, France.
